Hungry bears

It was in the Finnish version of “America’s Funniest Home Videos”. One of the videos showed two bears stealing a net from a fisherman. They have no interest in the net itself, they don’t know what it is or how to use it. They just know they’re hungry and the big salmon inside the net would help.

At this point the fisherman probably knows and accepts that the salmon is gone, but why does he have to give up the net, too? The bears hate the net — it’s the only thing keeping them apart from the salmon. If the fisherman would try and help them, the video might not be shown in a fun family show.

Cranky and hungry bears are lousy at receiving help. They don’t speak the same language as fishermen, they don’t trust fishermen, they play any situation by the laws of the jung.. er, forest. But in this particular situation, they’re keeping themselves from getting the salmon.

Noticing the moments, when your actions are actually moving you further from your goal, is not always easy.

Don’t be a hungry bear.
